How good are motorised treadmills & what areas do they target?
Im getting a motorised treadmill in a couple of weeks, i just want to know how good they really are and what areas of the body do they target?
Im wanting to loose weight & tone these areas: bum, thighs and belly. Would i benefit from using a treadmill.
Also, how long would be suitable for me to use the treadmill for when im a first time user?
And how soon would i benefit/see the changes?

It depends. If you want to boil water for a cup of tea, they’re absolutely useless.
If you want to run indoors, they’re better than kettles.

tread mills are great for targeting all the ares mentioned, start at a fast or brisk walk for 5 mins then trot for 2 mins then walk for another 2 mins to get your breath back then jog for 2 mins walk for 2 then sprint for 1 min then walk for 3 and see how you feel.
eventually you will be able to jog for miles but you need to work up to this level,
i aimed to run an indoor marathon but never achieved this, it can get boring as there is only so many times you can count the squares on the wallpaper in front of you, make sure you play music to help get over the boredom, the phrase hampster on a wheel always comes to mind when describing the experience, but its warmer than street jogging in the middle of the winter and better for your knee joints

I have one and it is really good, but it’s no use getting one if your’e not prepared to stick at it. You’ll lose weight and inches all the places you want to. To start with do 20 mins 3 times a week then just build it up week by week to 40 mins 4/5 times a week. Keep your speed low till you get used to it then build it up. I have mine 5 years now and I love it. Good Luck with it.

1. They don’t target anything. The purpose of a treadmill is to allow running indoors without tripping over furniture and wearing out the carpet. Outdoors is better, but at times weather and lack of sunlight get in the way.
2. If you’re trying to get rid of fat, that is done by eating less than you require to fuel daily activities. A treadmill can be used to increase your fuel requirements. The fat comes off everywhere. Excess fat on thighs and stomach cannot be targeted. Exercise has no direct effect on fat overlaying the muscles used.
3. Running on a treadmill exercises almost all the muscles below the waist. That’s a lot of large muscles, and that’s why its so effective burning calories.
4. How long and how fast is up to you and what condition you’re in to start. Standard recommendation is to increase distance no mor than 10% per week to avoid injury.
5. How soon? Impossible to say, but don’t expect miracles overnight. You’ll notice improvement in endurance and strength within a few weeks, if you use it daily for a significant amount of time. Weight loss? That has more to do with what you put in your mouth. Exercise helps, but you still have to watch the calories.
